As you can see, most of the song is just 'G' and 'C' chords alternated. I play a G and C repeated until I'm ready to start the verse. I pick a G-C pattern that mimics the bass line out of the primary song book like this:

Alternately, for a little more flair, with every other C chord you could fred a '5' on the B string, then pull-off back to '1' a split second into it. 

 When we get to where we're wrapping up the verse with "teach and preach", the rhythm changes, so we pick a little differently:

For the D7 I fret only the second and third strings of the D7 chord, then use my pinky to fret the '3' on the B-string as needed. Of course, when we're done repeating our G-C at the end of the verse, we want to finish with a little panache:
